Product Review : Battat Wood Collection- Threading Sandwich
Published on Sun Feb 20, 2005 9:00 pm

This 6 piece threading sandwich is quite a challenge for the child as well as the parent.

After five days of testing I have yet to completely construct the sandwich in such a way that I could thread it. I was able to put three pieces together and thread it. The wood pieces themselves are very slippery against one another making it a challenge to make a simple meat only threading sandwich.

Caleb had no interest in threading the sandwich but he would thread the cheese or lettuce. He did like putting the sandwich together and naming each piece while making it into a sandwich.

I was a little disappointed with this product as I was expecting something more like Learning Curves Threading Apple (which is no longer available). Caleb's OT has the Threading Apple and Caleb loves it. I would not recommend this product as a threading sandwich. It is far too frustrating. I would recommend it if you have a child with poor motor skill development because you can thread a piece of cheese, a piece of meat, a slice of tomato, a piece of lettuce, or a slice of bread (each piece is approx. 1/2" thick).

This product can also double for a pretend play item. As we all know far too well our kids do very little imaginative play. With this product I was able to encourage Caleb to make a sandwich. We named each piece as he constructed the sandwich. After Caleb made his sandwich I pretended to eat it and then he did too.

When rating the value of this product we must look at all uses. As a threading sandwich it is a poor value and waste of money. However, using it as threading meat and pretend play as mentioned above it is a great value at $10.00.
