Product Review : Melissa & Doug- Jigsaw-In-A-Box
Published on Sat Feb 19, 2005 6:20 pm

Product review for Melissa & Doug- Jigsaw-In-A-Box.

Each box contains 12 wooden puzzle pieces. We tested Pets- Jigsaw-In-A-Box which contains the following puzzles: Dog, Fish, Cat and Rabbit. Other sets include dinosaurs, vehicles and zoon animals.

Each puzzle when assembled measure 6 3/4"x 4 1/2". The top of the box slides open to reveal 4 compartments for the four puzzles. The backs of the puzzles have symbols on them for easy sorting of the different puzzles.

When you slide the box closed you can build the puzzle there. The top of the box has a ridge which keeps the puzzle from sliding off making this product great for home or travel.

The age for this puzzle is 3+ years. I thought this puzzle would be too advanced for my son who is 3 years 4 months old (at the time of testing). This product was an instant hit. The first night we had it we did the puzzles over and over again for 3 hours. Caleb needed a lot of assistance on the first day of testing. The pieces are nice and strong and withstood amazing amounts of pressure (from, at times, a very frustrated little boy) unlike cardboard puzzles.

At first I had to show Caleb where each piece went. On the second day of testing he needed little assistance. I would hand him one piece at a time and would only interject when needed. On the third day of testing Caleb retrieved the puzzle himself, opened it and took out one of the puzzles on his own. He then lined up the puzzle and proceeded to put it together all by himself. I was in shock. The only puzzles Caleb has been able to do in the recent past was the big knobbed wooden puzzles and a few other sorting type puzzles. Less than a month ago I tried Caleb with a heavy cardboard 5 piece puzzles and he could not do it but now I think it was no interest in doing rather than couldn't do it.

The price range for this product is $6.95-$8.95 and well worth the money. Another fine product by Lights, Camera, Interaction!
